Bienvenue a notre nuveau campement "Chez Fatou et Saladin"

Dear guest!

Welcome to our new campement ”Chez Fatou et Saladin”. We hope you will enjoy your stay at our place. Our main attractions are green, beautiful nature, proximity to a great beach at The Atlantic Ocean only 400 meters away, tranquillity, great walks and a kitchen of high quality. My wife Fatou is an excellent cook, and the bar in our restaurant can offer beer, wine, hard and soft drinks.

Currency and money:
The local currency in Senegal is Cefa (CFA or XOF). The nearest ATM from us is in Bignona, (about one hour by car), but euros can be changed or used almost everywhere. The official change rate is 650 XOF for one euro. The merchant in Abene minimarket Dauda can change euro for you, and in Kafountine (10 kilomters from our place by road), there is a bank and a big shop (close to the big baobap tree), which can change your euros.

Proposals during your stay at ”Chez Fatou et Saladin”:
Of course, it's your own choice what you want to do during your stay, but we have some suggestions. There are no "attractions" or "sights" in the normal sense, but as previously mentioned, our place is very scenic, 400 meters from a fantastic beach, where you have a bigger chance to meet a cow than a tourist. There are plenty of options for short and long walks along small, sandy tracks or along the beach to the village Abene (2 kilometers), where you can meet the local fishermen with their beautiful pirogue boats, handling the catch of the day and preparing their meals. For more ambitious walkers, you can take a beach walk to the larger town Kafountine (seven kilometres), and return by taxi). And half an hour's walk from our place, you may visit “The Coconut Man”, who has a small lake with big crocodiles!
All the excursions mentioned above can be done with or without a guide. If you make the trips individually, we will be happy to help you with practical information.

Other proposed excursions:

Boat trip in the mangrove forests south of Kafountine (half day trip)
We can arrange a taxi transport from our place to the maze of canals in the mangrove forests south of the town Kafountine with their beautiful nature and unique birdlife. After the arrival to the mangroves, you board a pirogue boat and move into the mangrove forests through the maze of canals. During the trip, you enter an island in the swamps, where there is a Christian church, and where illegal cannabis is grown. The local police knows everything about the illegal hash fields, but so far, no serious attempts have been made to stop the illegal cultivation!

Excursion to Ziguinchor (multi-day trip)
Ziguinchor is a major city located at the Casamance River. The center of the city has an exotic folk life with large markets and lots of interesting shops. We can help you to arrange a multi-day excursion of two or three days with an overnight stay at our favorite hotel Perroquet, located on the banks of the Casamance River. The hotel serves good food, which you can eat in the outdoor restaurant with a river view. From here, you can book a few-hour pirogue boat trip into the maze of canals in the mangrove forests and visit some of the remote fishing villages only accessible by boat. There is a very rich and exotic bird life and dolphins. And if you're interested, you may visit the idyllic fishing village of Pointe Saint-Georges, possibly with an overnight stay there. Pointe Saint- Georges can be reached with a 2 and a half hour pirogue boat ride from hotel Perroquet.
